The Smoking Gun declares: *"[The Bowie mugshot] was snapped in Rochester, New York following the singer's March 1976 arrest on a felony pot possession charge. Bowie, 29 at the time, was nabbed along with Iggy Pop and two other codefendants at a Rochester hotel following a Saturday concert. Bowie was held in the Monroe County jail for a few hours before being released. The Rochester Police Department mug shot was taken three days after Bowie's arrest, when the performer appeared at City Court for arraignment. The photo was provided to TSG by a Rochester man who is seeking to sell the one-of-a-kind image."*

Klaxons Divulge Bowie Love

Two thirds of the Mercury Prize winning band shared the following quotes last week when asked about their biggest influences.

Jamie: "David Bowie and Brian Eno are kind of the meeting point for us. Everything for us works in a triangle and at the centre of that triangle is those two. The two people who tie everything that we're about and into together."

James: "It's that chameleon aspect and the way you can introduce different aspects of styles within your own bracket. You can't ever say what Bowie truly sounds like. You couldn't call him indie or rock or dance. He's had so many different periods of experimentation and yet still he's a real pop star with it - that's something special."

Bowie Set For 'Doctor Who'

SP reports: *Rock legend DAVID BOWIE is set to star in the next series of British TV series DOCTOR WHO, playing an alien. Producers of the BBC show have targeted the Ziggy Stardust singer because of his "great other-worldly looks" according to reports.

British newspaper The Sun claims the 60-year-old will clash with actor David Tennant's Doctor in a two-part episode of the show, which will be aired next year.

A source tells the newspaper, "Bowie said he'd be interested as long as he's not subjected to hours of disfiguring make-up."*

Morrissey has begun covering David Bowie's 'Drive In Saturday' on his North American tour, currently stationed in the Midwest. Bowie Talks Highline With NY Times

“I love that word ‘curate’... One of the definitions is someone who oversees a zoo.”

In case you've been living under a rock, The Highline Festival begins this Wednesday (it's eleven days long) and features Arcade Fire, Secret Machines, Air, Laurie Anderson and a slew of others (full list can be found here on the festival's official site), as chosen by Mr. Bowie, himself.

“The point of the festival is not to dig out as many obscure and unknown acts as possible. It’s to put on what I would go and see. There are certain artists you just never miss; when they come into town you go and see them. That’s how I treat virtually all of the people that are on this.”

“If I get excited about a band or an artist or a painter, I tend to go on about them. And I tell everybody to go and buy the album or go see the show or whatever it is. And when a situation like this occurs, it’s just wonderful that I am able to phone them up and say, ‘Hey, listen, I’ve been offered this festival, what do you think?’ And suddenly you’ve got Arcade Fire opening.”

The Healing Power Of Arcade Fire

Idolator points us to a very interesting piece in the NY Times about Dr. Gawande, a surgeon, who is becoming notorious for creating iPod playlists as he performs his surgeries.

More from the NY Times: "On a recent day, when he took out a gallbladder, two thyroids and what was supposed to be a parathyroid gland but maybe wasn't, the playlist included David Bowie, Arcade Fire, Regina Spektor, Aimee Mann, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, the Decemberists and the Killers. The music wasn't turned up high, but it rocked sufficiently that the anesthesiologist bobbed his head, the O.R. nurse tapped her toe, and the member of the team in charge of all the clamps and retractors drummed his fingers on the instrument tray."

Hey, I dig it. Just one thing - if you're playing me some Aimee Mann while I'm having my tonsils removed, kindly make sure nothing from the Magnolia soundtrack is on that playlist - too hearbreaking.

Daniel Radcliffe Wants To Play Bowie

The Harry Potter megastar bares his soul to SciFi magazine in its latest issue.

"I think musical theater can be spared my talents," says Radcliffe with tongue and cheek. Other than that? "I don't know... I'm not sure really. Anything. I mean, it's very hard to say I would like to play this kind of part, because...there are great parts in any genre. I mean, there are people, I suppose, I would want to play.... If there was ever a..... biographical film about David Bowie,... that would be an amazing thing, to be able to play David Bowie. But... he's not dead yet, and... hopefully he won't be for a long time, and so I think it's a bit hasty to think of that. But, I mean, anything, basically, I'd like to do. Anything that's challenging.... Anything that's going to test me I would like to do, I think."

David Bowie Mugs Himself For Charity

Via Uncut: David Bowie has been getting arty in the name of charity, designing a personalised mug for charity artwork project, Whatever It Takes. The singer's artistic, personalised mug features a self-portrait and his interpretation of a symbol of hope conveys his message of 'Peace Thru Art.'

Monies raised will be donated to Bowie's choice of charities, including Trade Plus Aid and Save The Children. Bowie is a supporter of Whatever It Takes, whose aim is to "sell merchandise with a meaning." The charity gathers artwork from celebrities, each of them donating a symbol of hope, a self-portrait and a message of hope for the future. The artworks have been used to create clothing, tableware and ethical cosmetics.

Bowie Sorts Through Memory; Arcade Fire Teaser #4

Via NME: David Bowie, The White Stripes and Led Zeppelin are among the musicians, authors and critics have written about some of the most unforgettable concerts they've attended in a new book. The recollections appear in 'The Show I'll Never Forget: 50 Writers Relive Their Most Memorable Concert-going Experience', edited by Sean Manning.

The book is available now in hardback and on January 15 in paperback. It features first-person accounts by Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, The New Pornographers' Carl Newman, authors including Daniel Handler and Jerry Stahl, comic writer Harvey Pekar and many other notable figures.

The contributors write about some of the remarkable shows they've attended by artists including Metric, Prince, Public Image Ltd. and Led Zeppelin.

Bowie/Sting Burlesque Club Stripped Of Location!

Haha, aren't I punny?

This item just in: A New York burlesque club part owned by DAVID BOWIE and STING has been left homeless after its Manhattan landlord pulled out of a deal at the last minute. Club boss IVAN KANE planned to launch Forty Deuce on West 21st Street, following successful chains in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. He secured licenses and a deal for a property - but the landlord reneged on the agreement, leaving Kane and his club without a home.

However, the entrepreneur is determined to continue his plans, with the two British rockers as partners. He tells the New York Post, "I'm coming to New York next week, and I'm not leaving until I find a place." (via ContactMusic)

Something tells me they will find a way to work this out.

Ziggy Stardust Doesn't Believe In The iPod

ContactMusic reports that David Bowie has inked a contract with Nokia, to work with the company on their new music device (so far, unnamed), which will be direct competition to the ubiquitous iPod.

According to the article, he will provide podcasts (hey didn't Apple coin that term?) and playlists but will NOT be the spokesperson.

Take that, Bono!

If the device is anything like their cell phones, it will surely be a piece of crap. Sorry, it's true.

The device will not be out before '07. How do you think it will do?
