The Rapture, RJD2 & Kinky Lend Songs To Adidas

Sportswear giant, Adidas, has joined forces with thirteen musical acts in order to create theme songs for a slew of MLS (Major League Soccer) teams. Many of the tracks chosen are remixes and/or rewrites of the originals, with sports terminology incorporated into the tune. Of the project, The Rapture declares: "We love soccer. We love New York. It makes sense. Anything we can do to help Juan Pablo Angel score more goals." Their hit 'Whoo! Alright, Yeah... Uh Huh', which features the now-famous line 'People don't dance no more/They just stand there like this' has had its lyrics changed for the compilation to: 'You people can't score no more / You just stand there like this / You cross your arms and stare around / And whinge and moan and diss!' JT's New Album To 'Sound Like The Rapture'!

You've got to be kidding me...

Timbaland, who will be producing Justin's third solo record, has said that Timberlake's next album will sound like The Rapture.

Here's more: "The two worked together on Timberlake's 2006's 'FutureSex/LoveSounds' album, and Timbaland mentioned that, after initial conversations, they want the new material to sound like 'House Of Jealous Lovers', The Rapture's iconic single from 2002, reports the US edition of GQ."

Now, this I have to hear! Can we expect cowbells, saxophone and the whole nine as well?

The Shins, The Rapture & MTV Raise Darfur Awareness

Seems like this year's MTVU’s Campus Invasion tour, unlike years past, will actually help out a social cause (it's about damn time!). The shows (in 3 US cities) will assist in raising money & awareness for the ongoing crisis in Darfur; proceeds will benefit the Save Darfur Coalition. The organization will also have booths at the concerts where students can learn more about the cause.

The first show goes down at The Backyard in Austin April 22 and will feature the Shins, the Rapture, Shiny Toy Guns, and the Academy Is. The April 27 show at the Hi Fi Buys Amphitheatre in Atlanta is hip-hop-centric, with Rick Ross, Fabolous, Rich Boy, and DG Yolla. And April 29 at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia has Dashboard Confessional, K-os, Kenna, Gym Class Heroes, Augustana, and Kidz in the Hall. (dates/line-ups via Prefix)

The Rapture @ Studio B 2/16: House Of Jealous Lovers

Studio B is hidden in the back alley ways of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. An old warehouse turned music venue, club, lounge. The dance floor is surrounded on four sides by a small stage, two bars, a long dj booth and an elevated area with huge, deep, leather couches and chairs that appropriately enough is usually populated with patrons making out. The drinks should be cheaper and the coat check less expensive but Studio B is a hell of a fun place to spend one's Friday night.

Matt and I arrived at the venue, parked in front and hopped on line. A scenester girl in front of us loudly complained to the bouncer that it was incredibly obnoxious that those on the guestlist had to wait longer than those buying a ticket. She then threw rocks at the “plebes” shuffling through the snow past her and laughed with her friends as they cried.










Once inside, Matt and I quickly found the bar and then a spot against the stage with fellows Jerry Yeti and Punk Photo Abbey. The room was throbbing with music, dancing and sweat and a little after 1am, the The Rapture set the room on fire. Sure, they may have sung only 3 songs but from where I was standing, it was some of the greatest 15 minutes I've spent at a show in a long time.

The Rapture @ Studio B: My My My, My Mustang Ford

That's what 700 people were chanting last night as The Rapture performed 'First Gear', the second in their three-song 'mini-set'.

The show, all 15 minutes of it, was spectacular. The set went: Don Gon Do It/First Gear/Olio. It'd be near impossible to find a more eager crowd, as we patiently but anxiously awaited The Rapture's arrival (somewhere around 1:30 AM). The focus of the night was to unveil The Rapture's upcoming Throne Of Blood record label (more info here!), with DJs spinning (including The Rapture) all night long. And goodiebags at the end! Can't beat that.

Matt, Luke and the rest of the gang sounded flawless and it was painfully obvious to see that all in attendance were eating out of the band's respective palms.

At one point, Luke even jumped into the crowd and surfed around for a few minutes (I believe it was during 'Olio'). Amazing.

The Rapturous Sound Of Design

Let me explain.

I'm referring to the use of The Rapture's 'Whoo Alright.. Yeah Uh Huh' as the theme song to the new Bravo reality series (which I'm sure I'll get suckered into loving, a la Top Chef), Top Design. For non-Bravo viewers, the commercials leading up to the series premiere last week were incessant and CONSTANT.

Todd Oldham, the phrase 'wall to wall design' and 'WAYUH' playing over and over and over and over and over. That's what you (may have) missed. The commercial was on a loop, every 5 minutes flat.

My question to you is: was anyone else particularly annoyed/intrigued with the show/channel's selection of The Rapture as the official soundtrack to the show? I love the track (and everything The Rapture touches) more than life itself, but was it a good fit with Top Design? Your thoughts in the comments.

Yep, it's true. The band have just began work on their own label called Throne Of Blood. It will mostly feature vinyl releases of singles and remixes and will be maintained exclusively and entirely by The Rapture.

The Rapture & The Presets @ Webster Hall: The People We Love

Definitely one of the most fun shows I've been to all year, but does that shock you? I mean, The Rapture AND The Presets, this was destined to be dance-a-rific and it sure was.


The Presets started the show and kept reminding us that their job was to 'warm us up', and this they did, very very well. The Presets and Klaxons are the forerunners for what's being declared 'new-rave' (gotta love the British press) and I must say, I definitely prefer the former to the latter. The Presets got everybody riled up over the course of their 40-minute set. The Sydney natives ran through a set reminiscent of a rave straight outta '92 with a bit of early Kasabian and even a Chemical Brothers sample! By the time they got to their last tune of the night, the entire crowd at Webster Hall was jumping up and down frantically. Long live The Presets!


Next up, The Rapture. Somehow it's been over 2 years since I last saw them (Curiosa Fest). I neglected seeing them at their Bowery and Crash Mansion teaser shows earlier this year because I was waiting to hear the Pieces tracks in their full glory and not in the work-in-progress stage. Last night was the first official show following the second release.


The set opened with 'Heaven' and closed with 'Olio'. I don't have the setlist but I will tell you that they played most of Echoes, half of Pieces and of course, 'Out Of The Races And Onto The Tracks'. And everything sounded top-notch. 'Olio' in particular had an interesting arrangement last night, really mild-mannered at first before totally breaking loose, a great closing track; I love how they've re-worked it for this tour. Luke and Matt were in fine spirits, even encouraging the crowd to kiss each other on the cheek during 'Echoes'. Aww.


I can only gather that tonight's Halloween show at The Bowery will be amazing. I'll be seeing Pela @ B61 in Brooklyn, while Jen will be at a showcase at Fontana's, but please let us know what The Rapture is wearing tonight as costumes. We're just aching to know!

The Rapture, Pieces Of The People We Love Review

How long have we been patiently waiting for this? It seems like forever, doesn't it? Actually, it's been a little over 3 years since The Rapture's groundbreaking debut, Echoes. In the thousand or so days since Echoes initial release, the boys have written over 30 songs. Ten of those tracks make it onto the sophomore LP, Pieces Of The People We Love, and what a fine job they did in their selection process.

Each song stands on its own two feet and proves that the boys can successfully pull off being funky, scintillating and err...white (Thanks Paul!). Unlike the debut, many songs on Pieces actually feature a combination of Matt and Luke on vocals. They've never sounded better together. This album has a vast potential to become one of the greatest albums of the year. There, I said it. Listen yourself....
