Pete Doherty To Open Pet Rescue Center

Would you trust him with your pup? Digital Spy reports: *"Pete Doherty has started making plans to open an animal sanctuary near his Wiltshire home, say reports. According to The Daily Star, the Babyshambles singer is a passionate animal lover & wants to use his money to create a sanctuary for rescued & injured pets. The rocker was reportedly inspired after he rescued a 3-legged hedgehog from the roadside, which he has named Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle. "Pete rescued the hedgehog. It had a leg missing & he felt sorry for it," a source told TDS. "He made sure it got the proper help it needed from a vet & set up a special section for it in his garden. Pete has a big heart. He also loves rats & is looking after one with no tail. He has lots of kittens too & hopes that by the end of the year he'll be able to open his rescue center to local schools so they can educate children about animals."*

Babyshambles Find Impromptu Doherty Replacement In London

When Pete failed to show up to last night's gig (stop looking so surprised!), the remaining members of Babyshambles decided to recruit Jamie Bell, a longtime fan, to sing Doherty's vocals and play guitar throughout the 7-song, half hour set. Winehouse/Doherty Duet Is A Go... Maybe

Say what you will. Gigwise's got the dirt: *The tabloid’s match made in heaven has become reality with the news that Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse are to record a song with each other. The track called ‘1939 Returning’ was written recently following Doherty’s departure from rehab after a six week stint. Speaking to John Kennedy on XFM Doherty said of his time out of rehab: "To be honest it’s just good to be at liberty again, well fingers crossed. We're just writing some new songs, actually '1939 Returning' is one. I’m going to try and get Miss Winehouse to help me with it hopefully. They're putting it up on the internet next week I s'pose but I don’t know."*

Pete Doherty Writes Song For Amy W

I'm speechless. What are your thoughts on this one?

RTE reports: *Rocker Pete Doherty has reportedly written a song for Amy Winehouse and presented it to her as a birthday present. According to the Daily Star, the Babyshambles star penned a track called 'Amy on The Mend' for Winehouse's 24th birthday. Doherty reportedly framed the lyrics to the song and signed them 'Love Pete' before presenting the gift to his singer friend. A source told the newspaper: "Pete wanted Amy to have a lovely birthday as he knows she has been through a lot of late. So he wrote her a special song."*

Photo Of The Day: Pete D + Crackpipe + Kitty

The Sun has the following quote and picture from Pete Doherty's 'good friend'. Do you buy it? "One in particular has borne the brunt of his drug abuse. Pete thinks it’s hilarious to get it wasted. He even made a special mini-crack pipe out of a bottle so it can get the maximum hit. But the kitten is starting to get really bad withdrawal symptoms. It has lost some of its balance and takes huge risks jumping over things that are too high. It thinks it can fly. It’s really distressing to see.” Download a Libertines MP3 at bottom of post.

Pete Doherty's Mom Speaks Out

Stoner of the century's mum, Jacqueline Doherty, is quoted as saying the following to World Entertainment News last week regarding her son's drug addiction: "Pete's not ready to give up yet. He will have to hit rock bottom before he can rise up again".

How much more rock bottom can it get, mom? Damn.

In related news, UK's The Sun has conducted a poll to find the worst possible star to be trapped in the Big Brother house with, as voted upon by the general public. As you may have already guessed, Pete was declared 'the celebrity flatmate from hell'. Yikes.

Rumor Of The Day: Libertines Reunion?

As expected, NME (and every other music news source for that matter) is up in arms today about a rumored reunion between Doherty, Barat & the rest of The Libertines gang at this weekend's Glastonbury Festival.

To keep you updated, Carl & Pete entered a recording studio late last week to work on some (presumably) new tunes. UK rag, The Mirror, has the following quote regarding Glastonbury: "Pete and Carl are still arguing about what songs they're going to perform... but whatever they settle on, it'll be incredible."

Normally, I'm skeptical about trusting NME, but all signs point to yes on this one.

Hooray!

Doherty & Barat Team Up To Defeat BNP

Via ContactMusic: *Rockers BABYSHAMBLES and DIRTY PRETTY THINGS have joined forces to urge music fans not to vote for the British National Party (BNP) in today's (03May06) UK local elections.

Babyshambles and Dirty Pretty Things - fronted by former Libertines Pete Doherty and Carl Barat respectively - have teamed up with Love Music Hate Racism to ask fans to vote for any party but the far-right BNP.

A posting on Dirty Pretty Things' website reads: "The BNP currently have 49 local council seats around the UK, and are standing over 750 candidates in the elections. "Low turnout has often been a major factor in BNP local election wins, and sometimes just a handful of votes can make all the difference."*

Kele Deems Doherty Irrelevant

Last time we checked in with Kele, the Bloc Party frontman gave us his 2 cents on Jack White's commercialism.

Now, Mr. Okereke has some choice words on Pete Doherty. He tells The Guardian the following when asked if an artist needs to 'suffer to create':

"That is something that has been misunderstood in recent times, and has led to really clichéd behaviour. Someone like Pete Doherty - his drug-taking and refusal to adhere to a traditional lifestyle - makes people thing that his art is somehow more relevant because he's a fuck-up. It's easier to be a misfit or a dropout than it is to be a genius and actually create something."

Do you agree?
