Classic Mogwai Track Revisited Thanks To YouTuber

Check out Mogwai's new fan-generated clip for their 1999 track, 'Punk Rock', the opening tune on their sophomore effort, Come On Die Young. Elijah Wood To Play Iggy Pop In Biopic

Believe it!

The Tripwire is reporting today that Hobbit and music fanatic, alike, Elijah Wood is set to portray Iggy Pop in the upcoming biopic, The Passenger, to begin taping later this year.

Variety reports that the movie 'will focus on the early days of Iggy during his time with The Stooges. It will be directed by Nick Gomez, based on a script written by Eric Schmid.'

Jarvis Cocker Selects Jesus, Iggy & Clinic For Meltdown Fest

Oh, to be a curator. David Bowie got to curate the inaugural year of NYC's Highline Festival (going on as I type) and now Jarvis Cocker is coming forth to choose his favorite acts for the upcoming Meltdown Festival in London's Royal Festival Hall.

When Morrissey curated the show back in '04 he brought along The Libertines, Nancy Sinatra, Sparks and Loudon Wainwright III. The following year, Patti Smith brought Antony & The Johnsons, Cat Power, Beth Orton & Billy Bragg. Last year the venue was closed due to refurbishment but now, in its 14th go-round, former Pulp star and solo artist in his own right, Jarvis Cocker will be engaging in the selection process.

So far, he's doing a splendid job. Bands already confirmed for this year's shindig include: Iggy Pop & The Stooges, The 13th Floor Elevators, Jesus & The Mary Chain, Cornershop, Motorhead, Devo and Clinic. Not bad, eh? If previous years are any indication, the total number of performers will probably grow to twenty or so; we'll keep you upated as that news travels into our inboxes. Moz Begins US Tour, Mingles With Iggy Pop

Steven Patrick Morrissey kicked off his US tour this weekend, parading through Cali & Vegas. Setlist shockers included 'The Queen Is Dead' (!!), 'The Boy With The Thorn In His Side', 'Lucky Lisp' and 'You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side'. For full details, hop over to Morrissey-solo.com. Kelly Clarkson & Iggy Pop: No We're Not Sh*tting You!

Oh, give me a break. Yahoo! reports: Kelly Clarkson's next album will boast some punk rock flavor. The inaugural "American Idol" champ secured the services of bassist Mike Watt, who co-founded '70s punk band Minutemen, '80s combo fIREHOSE, and is now working with Iggy Pop and the reunited Stooges.

"I ended up playing on six of the songs. I had no idea what it was going to be like, but it ended up being pretty interesting," Watt said of the sessions for Clarkson's third RCA studio album. Watt said he was a bit skeptical about working on the project, since he knew hardly anything about "American Idol" or Clarkson herself.

"I heard that Kelly won some game show, but I was really impressed how she sang her ass off. It was intense. I'm really glad I had the experience -- it was trippy and everyone gave me much respect." The album is being produced by David Kahne, who previously worked with the likes of Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett and Stevie Nicks.

"(Kahne) let me try all kinds of stuff like fuzz bass, fills and solos besides just making things fatter," Watt said. Watt also found an admirer in Clarkson guitarist/songwriter Jimmy Messer, who "was very enthusiastic and helped me much -- he was a skater when he was younger and knew all about my music." The Stooges, meanwhile will release "The Weirdness," March 20 via Virgin. Watt is expected to be on the road with the group in the spring.

I will say this, if the songs sound anything remotely like 'Since U Been Gone', I will play this song endlessly on loop for a good 4 months. Fingers crossed!
