Dolly Parton Postpones US Tour Due To Back Injury

This is so sad. Official statement is as follows: *DOLLY PARTON has been forced to postpone her upcoming U.S. tour due to a back condition. Doctors have advised the iconic American singer, songwriter, film star and entrepreneur to take six to eight weeks off in order to recover properly. DOLLY apologizes to all her fans for this inconvenience and hopes that her fans will be patient until the dates can be rescheduled for late April through May. Tickets will be honored for the new dates. In a statement, DOLLY said: "I know I have been breaking my neck and bending over backwards trying to get my new Backwoods Barbie CD and world tour together, but I didn't mean to hurt myself doing it! But hey, you try wagging these puppies around a while and see if you don't have back problems. Seriously though, the doctors said I will be good as new in a few weeks & I can't wait to get back out!"*

Towleroad alerts us to the following bit of news: *On December 26th, Channel 4 in the UK will air a special called When Jake Met Dolly, in which the Scissor Sisters' frontman interviews Dolly Parton as she arrives in London for her 2008 Backwoods Barbie Tour, and to launch the UK arm of her children's charity project, Imagination.*

Dolly Goes Indie?

Here's an explanation, via Contact Music: *Country legend DOLLY PARTON will release her next album on her own label after landing a new deal to become the only signing to Dolly Records. The new company will be managed by the singer's longtime manager Danny Nozell. He claims the new album will be released in February (08) and it will be "the first mainstream country record Dolly has done in 17 years."

Nozell tells Billboard.com, "She's a free agent right now so we decided to go around to the majors to at least see what kind of distribution deals they were bringing in, and didn't see anything I was interested in. "To be honest, we have the finances the major labels have, and I put together a marketing plan that was way more extensive than any major has brought to me." A distribution deal is reportedly in the works with iTunes for digital sales, and the first single from the album, Better Get To Livin', will be released to radio next month (Sep07).*

ok, so, let me just tell you that dolly parton was FANTASTIC LAST NIGHT! she told story after story, cute as a button and played all the hits... '9 to 5' and 'jolene' were songs #2 and 3, wasting no time. she also did about 6 cover songs... apparently her new album will be all covers. she sang everything from 'me and bobby mcgee' to 'climson and clover' to friggin bob dylan! i have been converted. oh i also saw: john cameron mitchell, kiki (from kiki & herb), AUSTIN SCARLETT from project runway (oh yes), and kyan from queer eye. dolly is fagtastic!

Speaking of other shows that remind me just how gay I really am.... in the past 30 days i've also seen...

the scissor sisters... secret show under the pseudonym 'megapussi'... half first album/half new stuff. here's jake during 'laura' and ana during 'mary'... more songs about popular girls names on the next cd, i'm sure!









antony and the johnsons... oh my god, what a beautiful show. i also saw them at the bowery earlier this year when special guests boy george and rufus wainwright showed up to sing w/ antony... but this show at the (lovely) town hall was just friggin perfect. miss modern age has a good review up... but here's a cute photo of antony that i DIDN'T take :)



i'm seeing sufjan stevens on saturday.. one night in his 3294737489 night run at the bowery ballroom... can't wait!
