Wilco Postpones Shows Due To 'Nasty Case Of Chicken Pox'

Here's more via the band's MySpace bulletin: *We're sorry to report that our good friend and Wilco guitarist extraordinaire Nels Cline has recently contracted a rather nasty case of the CHICKEN POX (not sure that should be in all caps... but judging from the gruesome details in email correspondence we've had with NC, we'll leave it so). He is slowly on the mend but is not quite there yet, necessitating postponement of the Duluth, Minnesota show scheduled for this Tuesday night. That date will be rescheduled for Tuesday, September 4 and all tickets for the original date will be honored. Refunds will also be available to those of you unable to attend the Sept. 4 show.

The show scheduled for this Wednesday in Winnipeg, Manitoba will either be postponed or canceled but will NOT take place as scheduled. Details on refunds coming shortly. We apologize for the inconvenience... but we're really glad Nels seems to be over the hump and hope to see you out there soon. Regretfully, the Wilco HQ staff*

Get well soon, Nels!

Wilco Stays Composed Despite Album Leak

Via Billboard: In what is becoming something of an unfortunate tradition, Wilco's new Nonesuch album, "Sky Blue Sky," has leaked online, more than two months prior to its May 15 release date.

The group's 2002 album "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" was online for nine months before it was eventually released in stores, and 2004's "A Ghost Is Born" also hit the Internet well before street date. In the latter instance, Wilco fan site Justafan.org asked fans who had downloaded the album early to donate money to Doctors Without Borders, a fund which eventually grew to $15,000.

"There's probably some good argument to be made that it will prevent a few people from buying the record," Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy told Billboard yesterday (March 8) at the band's Chicago loft. "But there's also the idea that I believe is true for us, which is, it's people listening to our music. We feel very proud of our record and we want people to hear it. Ultimately, that's the goal," he continued. "I think most people will do the right thing and support us and buy the record, even if they have downloaded it." "Frankly, I would like to have people get a head start on knowing the material before we come to whatever town they live in," bassist John Stirratt added with a laugh.

When was the last time you heard or read about a band expressing happiness regarding a leaked album? Perhaps the band is just being pragmatic.

All The Deets About Wilco's 'Sky Blue Sky'

Been waiting patiently for this one? Just three more months to go! The record will be out May 15th via Nonesuch.

Wilco bassist explains more about Sky Blue Sky (via Billboard): "I think people may have an idea in their head about what it will sound like, but it's going to be different than that, Jeff had a lot of creative fire.

And also, the way we recorded was so cool because a lot of the arrangements just grew right there with everybody sitting around. I'm over the moon about it. I think it will be a really beautiful record. It's a great time to be in Wilco."

And it's a great time to be a Wilco fan! A rumored full US tour is in the works for this summer (Radio City, again?).

Here's the tracklisting for SBS: "Either Way"/"You Are My Face"/"Impossible Germany"/"Sky Blue Sky"/"Side With the Seeds"/"Shake It Off"/"Please Be Patient With Me"/"Hate It Here"/"Leave Me (Like You Found Me)"/'Walken"/"What Light"/"On and On and On"

Jeff Tweedy Is Not Afraid Of You And Will Beat Your Ass!

Yikes!

Straight from Bitchfork:

According to an anonymous Pitchfork reader, Tweedy punched a rowdy fan in the face about 30 minutes into Wilco's set yesterday evening. "So some dude jumps on the stage," the reader claims. "After he gets on stage (who really does this at a Wilco show?), he runs up to Tweedy to give him a fat smooch on his cheek.

"Tweedy freaks out like the retard from [There's] Something About Mary who doesn't like having his ears touched and grabs the dude by his throat. While clinching to his throat, Jeff hauls off and decks him with a punch/open hand slap/shove to the face and [the] dude skirmishes away. Tweedy later apologizes (sort of) and hurries to the point of the set where they bow out before the encore."

Another show attendee e-mailed us, adding, "Tweedy had to comment. 'I mean, come on guys, we aren't used to that! You guys have to stay down there."

concert reviews for the week

this week i was lucky enough to hit up 3 shows. only one of which i had to pay for (yay for good friends and vip lists!)

firstly, i saw jeff tweedy at the tribeca peforming arts center on wednesday. having never been a huge fan of wilco, i wasn't expecting much, but let me tell you, what a show! jeff did a great deal from 'yankee hotel foxtrot' which sounded flawless. and he is quite the funny guy. ace.

secondly, on thursday i saw THE SOUNDS. one of the most energetic shows i've been too all year. considering i was standing right next to miss modernage, and i forgot my camera, please check out her photos here

friday i saw ryan adams. having high expectations and the chance to meet him after the show, i was very excited. however, ryan was his usual drunk self (shouting obscenities to his bandmates, telling us stories of him throwing his glasses out of a cab window the night before)... the show had its moments of sheer brilliance but ultimately, did not compare to the last few times i've seen mr. adams. better luck next time, in the words of jake shears. i once again was standing/sitting to miss modernage's left, here are her photos for your pleasure.

anybody check out anything fantastic this week?
do share!
