James' New Album Art Stirs Controversy

Paste reports: *The Hey Ma cover art: a baby reaching for a handgun next to a pile of building blocks that spell out the album's title has already stirred up a storm of controversy across the Atlantic. The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority banned the artwork from appearing in any billboard campaigns promoting Hey Ma. Despite the ban, the band elected not to change the album cover. Guitarist Larry Gott said the art was inspired by the story of an American infant who was accidentally issued a firearms license & is meant to convey a powerful message.* Read the rest here.

Leave it to The Hourly Radio to release the best cover I've heard all year, 11 days before 2006 is complete! For the record and those keeping score at home, my other favorite covers of the year include (but are not limited to) Final Fantasy's cover of Mariah's 'Fantasy', The Walkmen's crack on 'Many Rivers To Cross' and The Gaskets' live-staple 'Got My Mind Set On You'.

The Hourly Radio JUST sent us their acoustic take on the James classic, 'Say Something', and it's fucking genius. The band somehow manages to keep the simplicity of the original recording while evolving it into something that would have fit beautifully as a hidden track to their debut History Will Never Hold Me. Incredible!
