Explosions In The Sky - Day Three

I'll let the band explain the idea behind this one: *We promised Jeremy we would do a Travels in Constants e.p. literally over four years ago. Since then we've been sidetracked by an astonishing number of things. Two thousand and five was our year to take a bit of a step back and take some time to write new music, and along the way somewhere we got an idea for doing this e.p. in a different way then we've ever approached writing music. It can take us months and months and months to write even a song. Sometimes it comes much quicker, but often we spend many an afternoon trying out new melodies and riffs and drum beats, playing things over and over, obsessing and arguing and sighing and sitting silently for what seems to be hours on end. So, for this, our idea was to write and record a song every day for two weeks (this later became eight days) and the rest of the two weeks would be spent trying to mix and master the results. No riffs were to be written beforehand; things would be pretty much made up on the spot. It seemed daunting but fun and, perhaps, instructive. A learning experience. A chance to try new instruments and new ways of thinking about writing songs. It's also our first attempt at recording ourselves (the whole thing was recorded in Michael's house). Anyway, The Rescue is the result.* Enjoy the tune below.

Explosions In The Sky To Open For Smashing Pumpkins

If you happen to be catching the reunited alterna-gods on their upcoming fall tour, I highly recommend getting there early to catch the brilliance that is Explosions In The Sky. The Texas-based post-rockers will join the bill for all shows beginning October 11th.

If you're headed out to one of the gigs between 9/24 and 10/9, you're stuck with The Bravery. Sorry.

What Do P!ATD & Explosions In The Sky Have In Common?

OK, pencils down. The answer: both acts were just added to the already amazing line-up at this year's Virgin Festival in Baltimore on August 4th and 5th. Dan Deacon has also been included on the bill which now features Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Police, CSS, Girl Talk, Modest Mouse, Spoon, LCD Soundsystem & Beastie Boys amongst countless others. Explosions In The Sky Cancels ENTIRE Summer Tour

Via Bitchfork: *Due to the serious illness of a family member, widescreen post-rockers Explosions in the Sky are canceling all tour dates through September 1. The band, who have been touring behind February's All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone, have promised to reschedule as many dates as possible after the summer's over.*

Our prayers go out to the band.

Wow, it's only Tuesday and we've already heard about three upcoming tour cancellations. Yikes! Here's who you won't be seeing in the near future and why.

Lily Allen - bored of the US, cancels nearly all of her upcoming tour (save for NY & LA). More on the story including the singer's blog entry over at Stereogum.

Explosions In The Sky - Glasgow & Manchester nixed as the band gets stuck in the storm affecting the Northeastern part of the US - causing major air traffic delays. The band is attempting to reschedule the shows after their current tour wraps up.

Grizzly Bear - College shows this weekend have been cancelled due to a passing in the Grizzly family. More info up on their MySpace page.
