Stephin Merritt Plus Volvo Equals

See below for Volvo's latest advertisement featuring The Magnetic Fields frontman, Stephin Merritt, singing elementary school favorite, 'The Wheels On The Bus'. Yes, you read correctly! Thanks for the heads up on this one, Idolator. Trite or brilliant?

He considers himself a POP singer and songwriter, so such work should be natural.

Better Stephin Merritt than James Blunt, Josh Grobin or Clodplay!

In 1968 & 1969, Van Dyke Parks (someone just as inventive & odd as Merritt) wrote music for Datsun's TV ads.

Besides, I'd rather he use his lovely voice shilling for Volvo's V70 wagon than for Hummer, Honda or (Heaven's to Murgatroyd!) BMW.

Actually, I wonder WHAT he's been driving lately...

Stephen Merritt makes some money, we all get to listen to a good song on the commercial instead of some other crap, what's wrong with that?

The only problem I see is that good music gets overplayed and tired in ads - but the real solution is to just turn off the tv!
