One thing that has always been true about Madonna is that she's had fingers on the pulse of what's going on beneath the surface of popular culture. Whether she uses that information for awesome or not has been somewhat variable. And between Gogol Bordello, Beirut, even the fucking Borat soundtrack (which, ironically enough, is mostly straight-ahead gypsy music), there's an undeniable gypsy vein which larger pop culture hasn't quite tapped. Plus, GB enliven this song with a little gitano cred.

But, the celebrity pairing with GB I really want to see is Wierd Al, who I realized recently must be a fan of theirs.

Gogol bordello sound like a mix between La Mano negra and Les Négresses vertes 2 of the most famous alternative french bands from the 80's (the former being Manu chao's first band) so no wonder Madonna likes Gogol Bordella as in 1990 Les negresses vertes wrote "Hou mamma mia" especially for her but she did not have time to record it so they kept it for themselves.
The lead singer of gogol bordello, Eugene is featuring in"Filth &wisdom" madonna's directing debut and the band contributed 3 songs to the soundtrack.

Great for Gogol Bordello! They're so much more talented than Madonna who is clearly jumping on the gypsy punk bandwagon - ugh.
