Zack Braff To Play Elliott Smith In '08 Biopic?
I can't find any confirmation on IMDB, Elliott Smith fansites or any other page for that matter. Hmm...
I think Zach would do a great job with the role. Guilty pleasure or not, I LOVED Garden State when it was released 3 years back (however, the film was unsuccessful in turning me a diehard Shins fan, just a casual one).
Let's hope there's some truth to all this!

I can't think of anyone worse. If that were to happen, the movie would end with Smith living happily ever after with Natalie Portman, rather than tragically dying, which is exactly why Garden State was disappointing.
I like Garden State. And I like the Shins, too.
zach braff would be perfect for it.
THAT WOULD BE HORRIBLE.
whaaaat???
god... please no...
it was hard enough surviving elliott's apparent suicide. i think with zach braff in that role i might consider putting an end to my own life.
no, let's NOT hope there is some truth to this.
please... nooooooooooooo!!! i don't want an elliott biopic... and if there has to be one, please let them choose someone better suited. i hope this is just a rumor. elliott's memory is far too precious... xo
...personally, I cannot compromise my attention to any biographical films unless the character actor physically resembles the portrayed individual and/or harnasses their mannerisms.
The dude from Scrubs would not achieve this. Atleast not in a flattering way. In my opinion I think Breckin Meyer resembles Elliott more than Braff.

i really don't think there even should be a movie made. but if it has to be done that zach braff is NOT the right canidate at all. and no joke if zach was cast as elliott i'm sure many fans wouldn't even want to see the movie.
if the movie needs to be made then honestly the only person that i can think to play it is a fan of elliotts, someone who is not well known or had never had a big acting role ... someone who actually cares about potraying elliott in the right way.
I like the shins. I think Garden state is ok. Zac braff seems depressing enough to play the role. Give the man a chance.
Hmm.
I don't think the movie should be made...
But if it's gonna be made, Breckin Meyer should play the role of Elliott.
R.I.P Elliott Smith.
nooooo way!
i cannot stand to look at his disgusting face.
Rather see Joaquin Phoenix, he was able to do Johnny Cash Justice. And has the more rugged distinctive facial features of Smith in comparison to pretty boy Braff. Phoenix also has a better track record of serious roles.
i can't elliott as anyone but elliott. this is no good.
he might be too old, but I've been saying for years that Jackie Earle Haley is the only actor with the distinctive facial appearance to play Elliott Smith. Plus he is short (unlike Braff), and would fit the part physically. Not to mention that his recent oscar nomination brings much better acting chops to the table than Braff. Seriously as a huge fan of Elliott, Braff would be a gigantic mistake.
I think philip seymour hoffman with a couple pounds lost and died black hair might be the answer, or Paul Dano (The guy from little miss sunshine and there will be blood) who in my oppinion kind of looks like him anyway except he is tall.....i dont know, but I dont think braff can physically portray him either...
Yes, I also really hope they don't make this either, but if they must, if they cast Zach Braff I'll commit suicide. I can't think of a worse choice... some ironic smirking dufus to play the sullen shy Elliott... hopefully its a rumor like the ones about Will Ferrell playing JK Toole's Ignatius Riley or Josh Hartnett playing Chet Baker, although both of those wouldnt be at all as god-fucking-awful as Scrubs guy as Smith... if it has to be done get Peter Skaarsgard to do it... his dad is one of the best actors ever and he's been great in a few films, like Kinsey...
