Time Out's Greatest New York Musicians (Of All Time)

When a print publication/blog/online magazine dares to feature a best-of list, they always run the risk of the glaring omission and/or the constant criticism from readers that follows immediately after the publishing date.

That said, we're no exception to that rule; we received a slew of nasty messages for neglecting to include TV On The Radio on ANY of our top 10 lists last year. And now's your chance to shove it to TONY!

Here's #1-10:
1. The Velet Undeground
2. Duke Ellington
3. Chic
4. Miles Davis
5. Public Enemy
6. Billie Holiday
7. Tito Puente
8. Run-DMC
9. Al Jolson
10. Ella Fitzgerald

Now, that list surely has plenty of legendary artists, but am I the only person who regularly associates NY music with Beastie Boys, Blondie, The Ramones, Notorious B.I.G., Television & The Strokes? The Strokes didn't even make the top 50! Totally ludicrous!

To check out the rest of the top 50, check out TONY's feature on their site. Which exclusion are you most bitter about?

i too thought it was a bit ridiculous that the only mention of the strokes was another band trying to sound like them. HELLO- they are one of the nYc bands that everyone should be proud of. and isnt madonna from detroit?!
