Portishead LP3: 10 Years And Counting...

My own personal 'Chinese Democracy' would have to be the third studio release from Portishead. The wait is simply draining.

Portishead aficionados know very well that the band's last album (not counting the live from Roseland LP from '98) came out all the way back in 1997. Yes, people, Portishead is experiencing the longest pregnant pause in the history of modern quality music (sorry Axl).

Sure, Beth Gibbons released a sort-of solo album a few years back but Portishead brilliance, it did not possess. Bitchfork is reporting that Beth and the boys played an impromptu mini-set last night in Bristol, after DJing over the course of the evening and even performed a new track, if you can believe it. The band has been teasing us for quite some time now yet insist that they have their hearts set on releasing the third album (Dummy was the debut, while the self-titled release was the second) by the end of the year. Don't hold your breath, folks!

Keep up with the band's progress on their MySpace page!

I quite liked Beth Gibbons' solo stuff but it really was very different to Portishead's sound so it'll be good to hear some new stuff from them (finally).

I'm just wondering if it'll be a let-down like Damien Rice's album was. Don't get me wrong there were some good songs off "9" but it didn't have the same punch as the debut.
Should be interesting to see if much has changed to their style in the last 10 years.
