Joan As Policewoman @ Tonic!
We were treated to Joan's full band including 2 amazing string players (Maxim Moston and Charlie Burnham) that truly added another dimension to her already thrilling and moving songs.
Joan's fans are visibly touched by her music. One woman behind me even opted for some sort of snake dance routine and some lip-synching. Normally I would be perturbed by such a concert attendee, but something about her was actually kind of charming. She really was hanging on every word of Joan's.
Joan admitted that most tracks on the album are actually about obsession, particularly 'Christobel' (catch the brand new video for the track over at her MySpace page., it's incredible). However, she saved my personal fave, 'We Don't Own It', for the set-closer and it was flawless!
Other than a uncooperative faulty amp (don't worry Joan, it was hardly noticeable!), Joan really put on an impressive intense performance, appreciated by all. She's off to Europe for 2 months but will return to NY in early '07. We will, of course, keep you posted!
Setlist minus the one-song encore (new track):
Keep an eye right here on The Music Slut for a full interview with Joan, come Saturday!
