as far as the eye can see
last night, fellow musicslut jen and myself trekked over to the mercury lounge to check out PEOPLE IN PLANES premiere show in nyc.
they did not disappoint. the 8 song setlist ran about a half an hour and was the perfect length to leave us begging for more.
they tore through about half their debut album, out in march, and threw in a b-side for good measure.
all night i was trying to think of a band to compare them to but couldn't really think of one. their bio says they were heavily influenced by supergrass, in particular 'i should coco', which they obsessively listened to as teenagers.
(as a side note, i guess my OCD teenage album was 'definitely maybe')
anyway, back to supergrass... i hear a little bit in their sound, but for me their live show is much more intense than one by supergrass (saw them a few years back in DC and what a snore of a show...)
bottom line is check these guys out before the hypestorm reaches its crescendo.
Labels: concert review, mercury lounge, people in planes

Oh wow, sounds like it was great... go the Welsh (and tour Scotland...!)
Just got my Point Juncture, WA CD... I see what you mean about the packaging! Incredible! Mine is no. 283 (just so ya know!)
My OCD record as a teenager? Probably If You're Feeling Sinister (as if you couldn't have guessed), but before that, probably Parklife by Blur and Different Class by Pulp. Great, great records!
