Editors: You Need to See Them Live

Being school chums with a blogstar definitely has its advantages...

Three days ago, Laura invited me to be her plus one at last night's sold-out Editors show. I was bouncing up and down I was so excited. Not only would my over-drawn self get to see a show for free with my mate, but the show happened also to be for the much hyped Editors.

So all Friday I prepared, like the good Brownie I am, by listening to the album a few times over...and I have to say, I wasn't impressed. It sounded like a not-as-good Interpol with a dash of Kaiser Chiefs thrown in. So needless to say, when Saturday night came around, I wasn't expecting much.

All before the show, people kept telling that live, Editors are fantastic. "OK cool." I answered while in my head I was saying "Yeah, right." Well, boy was I wrong. Editors are in fact, fanfuckingtastic live. I was blown away. Their set was tight, flawless, energetic and the perfect amount of time. An live, the lead singer sounds a lot less like Interpol than on the album, I promise you that. I just wish I wasn't stuck behind a forest of gargantuan men. The bloody kid's head above is in every one of my shots.

Before the show, there was a bit of confusion on where it was actually being held. At the v. last minute, it moved from The Annex to Rothko a few blocks away. Rothko is smaller than The Annex and the show was sold out so about 20 minutes before the band went on, Rothko had to close it's doors. There probably shouldn't have even been the amount of people that were in there anyway. Everyone around me had to stand with their arms crossed, all except for the Indian boy dancing his socks off next to me.

Laura needs to be up front, and she's wee so she can get away with it, so she left me in the back while she made her way to the stage. There she is poised on top of the amps, camera in hand. I was more than happy to be left behind...I got to stand next to Scientist Keith (and his girlfriend, whatever) for the entire show.

You can guess who I listened to all the way back to the island. My listening suggestion? Crank it up baby. This is not a band to be listened to at low volume.

You know, I actually like the Editors' record. And I did the first time I heard it.

And there's as much chance of me seeing them live as walking on the moon. Wearing a fedora. (I don't own a fedora, and no shops sell them round here).

le sigh.
