Sigur Ros @ the Edinburgh Corn Exchange

Skye and JK's trip to the big smoke to see Sigur Ros, as supported by Anima.

Set list:

Actually no. That's more Matt's kind of a thing 'cos he knows what the songs are called.

Anima and Sigur Ros both have this kind of ethereal, completely unearthly thing going on, and it's completely awesome. Especially when you start off playing your first song behind a great big curtain.

Hearing jónsi's voice coming from behind the curtain was an unsettling but strangely beautiful - very otherworldly - experience.

The curtain didn't stay in place all night, thankfully. For a band so far from the mainstream, and whom you can barely sway to, let alone dance or sing - they're every hipster's favourite chillout music.

Edinburgh's Thursday night crowd, mainly already fans, were very much on board with the band.

On record, it's all about the music; but tonight it was the whole show. It's a different kind of showmanship to bands like Franz Ferdinand, who work the crowd to bring them with them; Sigur's fans are already there. Tonight was about the lights, the smoke, the volume changes.

And still they were about the loud and, for a band so beautiful, about the rawk, teasing the crowd with a 'fuck yeah' effect; soaring emotions, but still enough to have hands in the air.

Cool, cheers! It was so awesome - there were other St Andrews folk on the bus/train back, and it seemed like they had an amazing time as well -

I'd quite like to see them again sometime soon...
