'Cassadaga' Slammed By NY Times, Billboard & Bitchfork
I happen to think it's his strongest release to date. However, that sentiment is not shared by other critics.
Billboard just delcared Bright Eyes' latest work as 'uneven', Bitchfork claims it's 'troublesome' and the NY Times went so far as to say: "He is clearly searching for a more mature style. But the musical and rhetorical convolutions of Cassadaga are no substitute, yet, for the way he used to blurt things out."
Yikes! Who's opinion do you side with?

Digital Ash and Wide Awake was it for me. Not too keen on the classic Bright Eyes material but 2005 was a great year for Bright Eyes.
More dual releases hmm...
I agree that Digital Ash and Wide Awake are the best albums, but I'm becoming extremely fond of Cassadaga as well. It's absolutely one of the finest to date. And... who ever cared about critics?
I have been a Bright Eyes fan for A LONNNNGG Time, I bought Fevers & Mirrors the day it came out.. I have close to 40 songs that never made it onto albums that are absolutely amazing.. The Bottom Line Is, Everyone is going to have their own opinion on Cassadaga & how it compares to his previous Albums..
He is going to have to pay the price for being of the most Gifted songwriters of my generation. Wide Awake & Digital Ash are basically flawless and they were released on the same day to boot, There are days when I put on Lifted.. & I am convinced that is his best album considering how young he was & the same goes for Fevers & Mirrors..
He is a different person now, He's not smoking crack, doing coke everyday, he is in love with Maria Taylor, he is very wealthy & extremely successful, So, for people who want "The Old Conor" on Cassadaga, It Is IMPOSSIBLE Because he is 27 years old now and I think he is finally happy for once in his life. I hate to say it, but, as far as songwriting and structure & lyrics, ETC. Cassadaga is His Worst Album, but, It is the most expensive Album he has ever made and he paid for it all with his own money!! There are AMAZING SONGS ON IT TOO -- "No One Would Riot For Less" & "Lime Tree" could have been Stand-outs on Wide Awake And "Cleanse Song" & "Coat Check Dream Song" Would Be Amazing On The Digital Ash Album.. Some of the others, "Middleman," "IF The Brakeman.." & OF Course The STRONG AND AMAZING SINGLE Could even fit on Lifted And Stand Their Own..
I have front row tickets to see him in Tampa On the 17th of May & Every Time I Have Seen Him Live, He IS So F#CKING DRUNK That It Is Absolutely Pathetic!! He needs to get back on uppers so he can at least keep his eyes open when he sings.. Anyways, I'm just getting all of this off my chest and hopefully someone comes along and understands my ranting..
I am a Solo Artist myself and Bright Eyes is the Greatest Songwriter Around My Age.. I Love Radiohead, The Cure, Sigur Ros, Tool, ETC. Drop By And Check OUt My Music And Add Me As A Friend, I Just Put The Page Up A Month Ago And I Am At The Top Of The INdie Charts And Being Played On Alot Of Radio Stations And Everything, I Would Love Any Feedback..

It is basically Impossible to Follow Up Digital Ash & Wide Awake when they were released on the same day, so, I have learned to accept Cassadaga for what it is - A SOLID ALBUM, Best Production & Sound Quality Of Any Of His Albums -- BY FAR!! & There are amazing moments on the CD.. The Girls from Eisley singing with him on most of the tracks does it for me..

Perfection comment A.K that wrote. I agree with him most complete. The passion that he wrote with about Bright Eyes forced me, mostly out of curios to check out He Dreams Awake and I have to give him kred, while 95% of these "so-called artists" completely die Sauarbeit, A. Fink (Fink is German name!!!) is next prodigy and my love. He is great pioneer waiting to be found. I researched the one musician amd found that he was called "american bjork" in a newspaper, "the next radiohead in one body instead of five" in a Portland E-Zine & "Sigur Ros mixed with Team Sleep mixed with Thom Yorke's Eraser Album blended into a very clever artist that equals a sound and method that no one has heard up to this point."
These are quite strong statements and he will have to keep progressing for the rest of his life to be compared to Radiohead, Bjork, or Sigur Ros. He is unconventional to say the least and his beautiful approach, angelic voice and genius structures have we waiting for his debut album more than any other EP or LP to be released in 2008. The brilliant recording & production techniques, which he happens to also have in his backpack FULL of Nigel Godrich and George Martin-esque secrets only add to what I believe is the most talented individual in the world that isn't signed. Whatever Record Label is smart and lucky enough to grab this musician will have a nice amount of Grammy awards to put on their walls. I am officially a fan & will do my best to get Germany & the rest of Europe
to take notice. The fact that he looks like Daniel Johns and Conor Oberst mixed definitely does not hurt matters. I want to F his brains out when he tours Europe! I'm sure I won't be the only one.
